Prime Minister has launched the PM Surya Ghar Scheme 2024. The primary aim of this scheme is to provide up to 300 units of free electricity, targeting the illumination of 10 million houses. The Government of India has allocated over ₹75,000 crore for the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Scheme, which was also announced in the budget. This major initiative by Prime Minister was announced on 22 January 2024. The scheme will provide free electricity in both rural and urban areas. Online registration for the PM Surya Ghar Yojana is available. The scheme aims to make India a global leader in energy and renewable energy by promoting renewable energy sources.

On January 22, 2024, Prime Minister announced a new scheme called the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. This scheme aims to reduce or eliminate the electricity bills of 1 crore households by installing rooftop solar panels on their homes. The Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana will benefit poor and middle-class families with an income of less than ₹2 lakh. The official website of the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana, www.pmsuryaghar.gov.in, has been launched.
Under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, 300 units of electricity will be provided free of charge every month. Detailed information about the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana is available on the scheme’s official website, pmsuryaghar.gov.in. Eligible beneficiary candidates can apply online for the PM Surya Ghar 2024.
PM Surya Ghar Yojana 2024 Registration
- Step 1: Visit the official website at https://pmsuryaghar.gov.in
- Step 2: Register on the portal and select your state
- Step 3: Choose your electricity distribution company to apply for the scheme
- Step 4: Enter your electricity consumer number, mobile number, and email ID
- Step 5: Log in using your consumer number and mobile number in the second phase of PM Surya Ghar Yojana 2024
- Step 6: Apply for Rooftop Solar as per the Surya Ghar Yojana Form
- Step 7: Once the solar system installation is complete, submit the plant details and apply for a net meter
- Step 8: Submit your bank account details and a canceled cheque through the portal.
PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana: Rooftop Solar Subsidy
The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, announced in January 2024, aims to provide free electricity up to 300 units per month to 1 crore Indian households by installing rooftop solar panels. The subsidy amount for these panels is provided through the Central Financial Assistance (CFA) scheme of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).
- 1-2 kW: ₹ 30,000 – ₹ 60,000
- 2-3 kW: ₹ 60,000 – ₹ 78,000
- Above 3 kW: ₹ 78,000 (capped)
These subsidies are provided through the Central Financial Assistance (CFA) scheme of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).
